Transmission of pollutants in water-courses
Possible applications of the software:
  • computations for the concentration of pollution in water-courses without or with curvatures
  • approximating the curves by polygonal lines
  • allowing variable width and depth in the model
Methods of computations
  • Transport equation with boundary conditions
    • mathematical model: a specific partial differential equation in two dimensions
    • boundary condition: depends on the polluting source and the geometrical data of the line of river shore
  • Reflection principle
    • reflection of pollutants from the river shore is taken into consideration
    • the concentration is computed as a sum (using only the dominant members)
  • Application of a curve (bent) coordinate system
    • the curvature of the middle line of the river is replaced by a polygon
  • Visualization of the pollutants on a map
    • colouring the map according to the concentration values
Parameters of the procedures
  • Settings
    • factor of transversal dispersion
    • geometrical data of the water-course
    • location of polluting sources
  • Characteristics of pollutants
    • intensity of polluting sources
    • loading and pollution limits
  • Other parameters
    • size of the map (number of pixels)
    • connection between pixels and true sizes
Environment
  • WINDOWS
